A Heart for Community

The group of people you do life with, the ones you enjoy hanging out with, the ones who challenge you, encourage you and bless you... those people are your community. It can be your neighbors, small group, the other baseball parents or your Sunday School Class. Our community is less about the organization and more about people intentionally connecting and doing life together. Your community doesn't feel so important until you need them. They're the ones who show up at the hospital when something happens to a family member, they're the ones who take care of your kids when you have a work emergency, they're the ones who attend the birthday parties, graduation parties, weddings and other monumental life moments. Unfiltered: Birthdays are a Big Deal

Birthdays are a big deal. They always have been, they always will be.   As long as I can remember, my birthday was always a very special day. My mom did a great job making us all feel special, celebrating us well with family and friends, and setting the tone for birthdays in my family to this day.   The story of my birth is less than glamorous, I’ll share that story later, so my mom has gone out of her way my whole life to make my birthdays something special. Has there ever been a time in your life that you've wondered what your purpose was? That you've questioned the promises of God? That you've lost your passion? Friendship is a Gift we Give and Receive

I have a sign in my guest bath that reads "Friends are the Family we choose". Our chosen family are the ones we call when our kids are in the hospital or our heart is broken because of something that has happened in our world. They're the ones we reach out to when we need prayer or we are in the midst of a struggle and we need sound counsel. They're our "person" to talk us off the cliff we might try and jump off or to keep us grounded when we want to run away from it all. I often sit and reflect and thank the good Lord for the friends He's given me. But, I have also been through real heartache in the [...]
